Lebanon´s president reject call for international probe
Beirut, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's President Michel Aoun on Friday rejected calls for an international inquiry into the blast, saying they are aimed at distorting the truth.
Aoun said Tuesday's catastrophic port blast occurred due to negligence or external attack (missile), adding that 'no verdict makes sense if it takes too long to be issued and the Judiciary must be quick, because late justice is not justice.'
Like all Lebanese, he added, I am angry about the blast and the goal is to unveil the truth of whatreally happened.
Offering condolences to victims´ relatives, Aoun pointed out the real consolation is compliance with justice and no high or low-ranking official responsible for the disaster will go unpunished, he said.
He added that he had asked Mr. Macron 'to provide us with aerial photos of the explosion.' 'If they don't have them then we will ask other countries to determine whether the attack was external or [caused by] fire,' said Mr Aoun. He did not clarify how aerial photos would be used to determine either possible cause.
