Cuba: Growing interest in Varadero beach
Havana, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Domestic holidaymakers have shown growing interest in hotels in Cuba's major coastal resort, Varadero, where more than 62,000 tourists stayed overnight during the first 12 days of August, according to Prensa Latina.
The announcement, made by the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), is among the most read stories by this news agency's users.
Ivis Fernandez, the MINTUR delegate in Matanzas, where Varadero is, noted that operations in the domestic market average nearly 5,180 vacationers a day in 15 hotels.
She added that during a recent working visit to Varadero, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero highlighted the progress of major investments, and expressed hope that the recovery of the tourism sector will start in the upcoming peak season.
