Beijing, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) Senior representatives of Cuba detailed the opportunities the country offers to expand bilateral cooperation and business with the Chinese municipality of Chongqing (central China) in multiple socioeconomic sectors, diplomatic sources confirmed.
Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira mentioned during a seminar the advantages and the existing complementarity to establish new joint projects in areas such as health, biotechnology, tourism, industry, education and renewable energy in a post-Covid-19 pandemic scenario.
The seminar brought together local government leaders and members of the Chamber of Commerce, companies, universities, travel agencies, tour operators, press organizations and cultural institutions, Pereira said on social media.
The mayor of the municipality, Tang Liangzhi, spoke last May of the interest of working with Cuba on projects to develop vaccines and other drugs, after highlighting Cuba's high prestige and competitive level in that branch.
The official suggested exploring cooperation in the joint training of professionals, the automotive sector, culture and tourism, the latter with a view to positioning Cuba as a preferred destination in Chongqing.
He also advocated for strengthening commercial ties and highlighted that last year saw a growth in commercial exchanges.
Chongqing is one of the four municipalities directly subordinate to the central government of China and is strategic from a political, commercial and industrial point of view due to its development and position within the process of deepening reform and opening up.
Its geographical location links it to the Belt and Road project, and it is worth highlighting the progress in areas such as technology, new energies and the automotive industry, plus a projection of opening up to Latin America and the Caribbean.
