Chile to hold referendum on new Constitution
Santiago, Chile, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) As a sign of the interest of the October 25 referendum arouses in Chile, more than 150,000 people have been nominated to participate as electoral facilitators that day.
Chile's Electoral Service (SERVEL) convened some few days ago to cover 150,000 positions for electoral facilitators, who will essentially ensure that the health measures are fulfilled during the elections. Some 150,000 applications were submitted in less than 48 hours.
Among the facilitators' tasks are rank-order voting, supervise physical distancing, use of facemasks, respect exclusive shifts and schedules, and voters wash their hands before going to the polling station.
More than 14,500,000 voters are eligible to vote at the historic referendum. They should vote whether they want a new Constitution for Chile, or maintain the current one, imposed during the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship.
In case that the first option wins, which is given as safe, voters should elect whether they want a Constituent Convention, with all members elected by the population, or a Mixed Convention, which includes equal parts the legislators in office, people elected by the population.
