UNES presents tandem for elections in Ecuador
Quito, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador will get acquainted on Wednesday with the tandem to represent the Coalición Unión por la Esperanza ('Union for Hope Coalition' (UNES)) in the next general elections.
The UNES duo was initially formed by Andres Arauz, a candidate for president, and former president Rafael Correa as a nominee for the vice presidency, but the position was left empty after the ratification of the eight-year prison sentence leveled against him in the Bribery Case, which has been considered by many a plot to outlaw Correa and prevent his participation in the general elections.
The political force considered some options for the replacement of Correa, among which stand out the communicator and political analyst Carlos Rabascall, the former Minister of Finance Maria Elsa Viteri and the national secretary for participation of the Social Commitment Movement for the Citizen Revolution Pierina Correa.
However, a video was posted on social networks according to which the pre-candidacy for the vice presidency will correspond to Rabascall.
Made up of various organizations, UNES was established as the coalition that represents the people, as it has in its ranks indigenous people, Afro-descendants, peasants, workers, intellectuals, and women, among others.
The political force has gained followers in various sectors of society that consider it the best option for the general and legislative votes scheduled for February 7th, 2021.
Restoring dignity to the Ecuadorian people, working to get out of the crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic and promoting public projects for the general welfare are some of the priorities for UNES, according to Andres Arauz when he officially accepted his candidacy for Head of State.
