Malian Army admits casualties during irregular attacks
13 de octubre de 2020, 14:33Bamako, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman for Mali's Ministry of Defense admitted 12 fatalities in an attack the day before and an ambush today by irregular armed groups in an area of the center of the country.
Most of the casualties, nine dead and an undetermined number of wounded, resulted from the attack late last night on a checkpoint in the Mopti region, according to the communication.
This morning a military patrol was ambushed in the same area with three dead and 'several wounded,' adds the communication, picked up by the Russian agency Sputnik.
In the fighting, the Malian infantry had to resort to the support of the air force which destroyed two vehicles of the attackers, whose affiliation was not specified in the official report which assures that nine attackers were killed.
Mali is going through a delicate internal situation marked by the recent dismissal of former president Ibrahim Boubakar Keita and the integration of a mixed cabinet of civilians and military in charge of organizing general elections within 18 months.
The Malian opposition supported the uprising at first, but days later accused the military of 'wanting to kidnap power.'
