Chile attentive to demonstrations on anniversary of social protests
Santiago de Chile, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) Large demonstrations in the main cities of Chile are scheduled for this weekend, in commemoration of the anniversary of the social outbreak that generated unprecedented protests in the country.
Labor and student unions, community organizations, alternative press and social networks are calling for this goal to start the mobilizations next Friday.
They have also announced not only demonstrations, the massiveness of which may be diminished by the Covid-19 pandemic, but also events, forums, tributes to victims of police repression and pot-banging, among other actions.
Although protests are planned in this capital at various points, the epicenter will be the Plaza Baquedano, renamed by the protesters as Plaza de la Dignidad (Dignity Square), where mobilizations have increased ostensibly since the first days of October.
Important demonstrations are also expected to take place in Concepcion, Valparaíso, Temuco, Punta Arenas, Arica, Antofagasta and other cities.
Analysts, political leaders of the opposition and social organizations, warn that the mobilizations, which could have their greatest expression on Sunday 18th, on the anniversary of the social outbreak, will not only serve to commemorate the date, but to reiterate many of the changes required then.
They ensure that demands such as quality education and health for all, decent pensions and wages, gender equality and opportunities, the recognition of indigenous communities, the end of abuses and inequity, among others, remain in full force.
