China accuses US of endangering peace with military operations
Beijing, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) China accused the United States on Thursday of endangering peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait by constantly sending battleships, and noted the country's determination to protect its territorial integrity.
Zhang Chunhui, a spokesman for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), condemned the transit of the destroyer USS Barry in the region, and charged that Washington seeks to send another wrong sign to the separatist sectors on the island.
The spokesman noted that the PLA air and naval forces monitored the transit of the US ship on Wednesday, will continue to be vigilant and are ready to take the necessary actions in case of US incursions.
Zhang demanded that the United State stop causing troubles in the Taiwan Strait with maneuvers and a rhetoric that undermines peace and stability in the region.
Since last summer, the PLA has carried out military maneuvers near Taiwan as a disincentive to separatist aspirations there and provocations by the White House, which also sent two top government officials to Taipei.
Taiwan is one of the most sensitive issues in relations between the United States and China, and the situation was exacerbated this week after US President Donald Trump sought the approval of the Congress to sell military equipment, vehicles and weapons to that Chinese territory.
However, Taiwanese authorities pointed out that they have not received an official notification in that regard.
