Putin proposes initiative to extend Start-3 with US
16 de octubre de 2020, 13:55Moscow, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday proposed to extend for one year and unconditionally the Treaty on the Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (Start-3), signed with the United States in 2010.
At a videoconference with the National Security Council, Putin instructed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to propose to the US party the extension of the Start-3 and hold substantive negotiations on the new deal.
The goal is not to leave our countries and the rest of the world, which are interested in keeping strategic stability, without a document as fundamental as the Start-3, he stressed.
It would be extremely regrettable that the Treaty stop existing and was not replaced by another fundamental document of this kind, the Russian president noted, amid Washington's stance to evade a debate with Moscow about the extension of the agreement.
The Start-3 worked appropriately those years and played its main role in limiting and stopping the arms race, as well as controlling weapons, the president pointed out.
