Thousands Lebanese commemorate anniversary of popular uprising
Beirut, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of protesters repeated at Martyrs´ Square an imitation of the popular uprising that began a year ago against sectarian political system.
The demonstration is part of massive concentrations planned nationwide in order to commemorate those days that led to the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri. Both the Army and security forces deployed troops to prevent violence with which rioters once carried out against banks and state-run institutions.
A candlelight vigil will take place at Beirut port, at 6:07 pm, at the same time a blast occurred on August 4, with a total of 192 dead, and over 6,500 injured .
The protests that began on October 17, 2019, took place when the Government was debating a bill on tax measures that included daily charge of $ 0.20 for the use of WhatsApp.
