Havana, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The National Director of Epidemiology, Francisco Durán confirmed today that in the country there is no evidence of patients reinfected with Covid-19, a very isolated fact globally.
No patient who had the disease has been infected again, no case has been proven in Cuba, the official stressed when answering a question on the subject at the weekly press conference to update on the epidemiological situation associated with Covid-19.
The global scientific community reported several weeks ago a group of less than 10 cases that contracted the disease again, patients from Hong Kong, Belgium, the Netherlands, United States and Spain.
Without triggering alarms, they explained that the only concern about the duration and scope of the immunity induced in the human body by the coronavirus may offer clues for the development of the long-awaited future vaccine.
In the case of Cuba, Durán pointed out that some patients have been notified in studies who delay in turning negative the PCR test, which leads to their hospital surveillance for follow-up. These people do not transmit the disease after days, only the tests indicate the presence of RNA fragments, the specialist stressed.
The number of infections in Cuba rises to 8,110, 35 of them in the last 24 hours, and no deaths are reported, a list that rises to 133 since the onset of the disease in the country last March.
