UNIDO and Cuba collaborate to improve industrial development
27 de noviembre de 2020, 17:18Havana, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Cuba established a project to support the analysis of industrial competiveness and guide decision makers in the implementation of the country's strategy, an expert said on Friday.
In statements to Prensa Latina, UNIDO Country Coordinator Fidel Domenech explained that the creation of the Industrial Competitiveness Intelligence Unit will allow making correct decisions at different levels to boost Cuba's sustainable and inclusive industrial development.
He noted that industrial development is included in the country's socioeconomic development strategy and is considered the foundation for new sources of revenues.
Domenech noted the need to foster national production and productive linkages, boost exports and work to reduce imports.
The project, called Institutional Strengthening for the Analysis and Establishment of the Industrial Strategy for Cuba, is aimed at improving the analytical capacities of the Ministry of Industries, promoting industrial competitiveness and providing specialized information to decision makers
Among the project's goals is to support Cuba's industrial development by providing analytical inputs that will allow designing, implementing and overseeing the country's industrial political strategy.
Domenech explained that the project is part of the 2016-2020 Country Program signed between Cuba and UNIDO, and focuses on the key sectors of industrial development.
