Beijing, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The municipality of Chongqing, southwestern China, activated the health emergency today and conducts massive health tests after confirming Covid-19 in a South Korean employee who traveled from there to his native country. Authorities shut down the factory where the individual worked and the hotel that hosted him since last February, isolating staff from both sites and tracing close contacts for screening and quarantine.
They also opened an epidemiological investigation and so far they have not reported any positive cases among the samples taken.
The patient is an engineer from the semiconductor company SK Hynix, who on Friday traveled from Chongqing to South Korea and was declared asymptomatic to Covid-19 in a nucleic acid test (swab) that was performed upon arrival at the international airport from Incheon, Seoul.
This is the first time in months that the pathology has been recorded in those who travel to other countries on flights from China, where the disease has been basically under control since last April.
According to official figures, the Asian giant maintains 4,746 deaths from the respiratory condition and raised to 93,329 confirmed cases in its continental part, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Asymptomatic patients are counted separately and currently number 279.
The country is fighting the resurgence of pneumonia in several locations, Hong Kong is once again presenting the most complex situation and this Sunday announced mandatory health tests in certain groups of people, as well as measures reinforced by the law to track possible infections.
In addition, experts warn of a foreseeable increase in cases of Covid-19 and the common flu at the same time, after reporting four patients affected by both diseases.
