Re-elected historical leader of the Communist Party of Portugal
Lisbon, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The historical leader of the Communist Party of Portugal, Jeronimo de Sousa, was re-elected today as head of that political formation in a congress questioned by the opposition.
The town of Loures, to the north of this capital, served as the venue for the conclave where 611 delegates participated in person, half of the total expected attendees, under social distancing rules.
However, adverse forces such as the Social Democratic Party (center-right) criticized the celebration of the event in a country where 4,363 people have died from Covid-19 and 290,706 have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus to date.
Portugal lives today in a state of emergency, the highest alert level, which will remain at least until December 8, according to health authorities.
Similarly, a curfew applies from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time, stricter on weekends where the driving ban begins at 1:00 p.m.
