Chile's authorities report new peak of Covid-19 cases
7 de enero de 2021, 16:28Santiago de Chile, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) Chile's Ministry of Health (MINSAL) informed on Thursday 3,685 new infections, the highest amount since July 5, and 97 deaths from Covid-19.
Thus, the total number of Covid-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic in the country rose to 629,176, of which 18,679 are active cases, a number that increased almost daily in recent weeks.
Likewise, the death toll including the PCR tested by the Department of Statistics and Health Information, amounts to 16,913 in the country, according to the official briefing until 21:00 local time on Wednesday.
From the total of active cases, 862 are admitted to intensive care units, 695 of them are connected to mechanical ventilators, and 96 are diagnosed as critical, the highest peak in several months, as well.
When assessing the Covid-19 situation, the Minister of Health Enrique Paris reported that today in 11 of the 16 domestic regions the figures of Covid-19 cases increased, and only in five regions that indicator have been decreasing.
He further noted that the variation in new cases nationally grew by 29 percent in the last seven days, and 33 percent in two weeks.
