Mexico, Jan 12 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, announced on Tuesday his government's plan to vaccinate 15 million elderly Mexicans against Covid-19 in the first quarter of this year.
If we vaccinate them all, we would be reducing mortality from Covid-19 by 80 percent, which is why the priority is to vaccinate them as soon as possible, the President said in his morning press conference at the National Palace.
López Obrador's announcement was part of his explanation of the dynamics of the comprehensive program of free universal vaccination against Covid-19 for all Mexicans and foreign residents.
The Mexican government has already defined as a strategy that it will first vaccinate health professionals and workers in hospitals dealing with Covid-19. Once, they are immunized, then elderly adults will follow up, the President said.
Subsequently, chronically ill people under 60 years of age will come next, 'and then we will vaccinate teachers so we can reopen the schools and students can return to classes,' he added.
To carry out the vaccination program, health authorities are setting up 12-strong 10,000 teams including promoters, doctors, nurses and armed forces personnel, a total of 120,000 people, Lopez Obrador explained.
