Brasilia, January 13 (Prensa Latina) Brazil on Wednesday reported 508 nursing professional (assistants and technicians) who have died of Covid-19 since the first official report on the disease in the country, according to the Federal Nursing Board (COFEN). As reported by COFEN, more than 46,000 Covid-19 contagions were reported.
The report shows Sao Paulo state tops the death toll with 77, followed by Rio de Janeiro (55) and Mato Grosso (37).
COFEN's official website noted that Brazil is responsible for one third of all nursing professionals' deaths from Covid-19, an 'alarming news because, without them, saving lives in hospitals is an increasingly Herculean mission'.
The latest global report on nursing professionals' death rate were published in November by COFEN, reporting 1,500 deaths in 44 nations, a figure possibly exceeded.
'The fact that the number of nurses who have died of the pandemic is similar to those who have passed away in World War I is shocking,' COFEN Executive Director Howard Catton stressed.
