Cuba reports 505 new Covid-19 cases and 221 recoveries

Despite medical efforts, two Cuban women aged 83 and 87 from Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey provinces, respectively, died on Wednesday, due to complications associated with the virus. The death toll increased to 160.
The specialist stated that 3,660 active patients remain hospitalized, including 3,349 who are clinically stable, 21 who are seriously ill and 17 who are in a critical health condition.
Of the 505 new cases, 69 are under 20 years of age, totaling 1,738 children and adolescents with the disease so far.
Some 308 active minors remain hospitalized and five of them are seriously ill, the doctor said.
On Wednesday, laboratories made 14,579 PCR tests in real-time to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, totaling 1,649,009 samples so far.
Of the new contagions, 366 were contacts of confirmed cases, 33 were infected abroad and the source of contagion has not been established in the remaining cases, Dr. Duran explained.
Cuba currently records the highest pandemic peak with high numbers of daily cases. National authorities insist on self-responsibility and strict compliance with protection measures to control the spread of the disease.

Havana, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Thursday reported 505 new Covid-19 cases in the last few hours, and 221 patients were discharged from hospitals.
With these data, the country accumulates 16,549 cases since March 2020 and the recovery rate rose to 12,699, Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said on Thursday.
