Madrid, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) At least two people were killed and several were injured in a explosion that took place on Wednesday in a building in downtown Madrid, Mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida said.
In statements to journalists on Toledo Street, where part of the six-story building collapsed as a result of the deflagration, the mayor confirmed that two people died and many are being treated for injuries.
The entire area was evacuated and firefighters are searching for people under the rubble, according to images broadcast by local television.
The explosion completely affected the façade of the building located on the central artery of the Spanish capital, next to a nursing home.
The building is the parish center of the church of La Virgen de la Paloma, which is behind it.
