Senator Topolansky lashes out at poor economic relief for workers
Montevideo, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Former Uruguayan Vice President and Senator Lucia Topolansky on Wednesday criticized Government's poor economic relief for the working sector amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
'We are living such a hard period, since the numbers of positive cases skyrocketed and the health-economy dilemma is a very delicate balance that is difficult to reconcile because we have to take care of our health, but we also have to live on something,' he stressed.
She said that the work of those who are independent, with no social protection coverage, has been destroyed and is directly affected after a number of months.
Topolansky, who is a lawmaker from the Broad Front, made emphasis on this population sector that has no access to unemployment insurance and in favor of which the opposition political force advocates for a temporary income support.
In an appearance on television, Topolansky also talked about the indebtedness level of people who could not pay electricity and water services, so in her capacity as a senator, she requested some reports from public companies. She has not received any answer to date.
