United Nations, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's representation to the UN celebrated with the multilateral organization the entry into force on Friday of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
On a press release, the Cuban diplomatic delegation highlighted how this treaty makes an effective contribution to general and full disarmament, as well as to international peace and security.
According to the statement, that instrument establishes a new regulation of international law that prohibits nuclear weapons in all circumstances and nuclear tests of all kinds.
'Cuba signed the Treaty on the same day it was opened to signing at the United Nations headquarters. It was the 5th member State to ratify it, on January 30, 2018.'
Likewise, the communiqué notes, Cuba gives the highest priority to nuclear disarmament.
With the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the international community clearly establishes that nuclear weapons are not only inhumane, immoral and ethically indefensible, but also illegal, it adds.
Cuba has repeatedly stated that the prohibition of nuclear weapons as a regulation of international law is a fundamental step on the road to the total and irreversible elimination of those dangerous devices.
