Earthquakes shake Chile's northern regions
Santiago de Chile, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Two earthquakes of slight magnitude were felt on Saturday in the regions of Coquimbo and Tarapaca, in the north of Chile, within minutes of each other, the National Seismological Center reported.
The latest and intense one occurred at 10:24 local time, with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, in the Tarapaca region, with an epicenter 36 kilometers northwest of the city of Iquique and at a depth of 44 kilometers, according to preliminary data.
Just ten minutes earlier, the National Seismological Center registered another earthquake, with an epicenter 22 kilometers east of the town of La Higuera, in Coquimbo, with a magnitude of 4.3 and a depth of 40 kilometers.
The authorities reported that there was no damage to infrastructure, interruptions in basic services or injuries.
