Cuba reports record of 1,012 new Covid-19 cases
Havana, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Amid a complex epidemiological situation, Cuba confirmed 1,012 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the highest number in a day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020.
So far, Cuba has accumulated 26,686 confirmed Covid-19 cases, Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said at his daily press conference.
Over the last few hours, a person died of Covid-19, so the death toll increased to 214, with a lethality rate of 0.8 percent, said the expert, who added that 12,570 patients are in hospitals for surveillance, and 3,947 are suspected cases.
There are 3,065 people in surveillance at the primary care level, and 5,558 are active cases, another high figure of confirmed cases, although 5,508 are evolving well.
In order to detect the presence of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, 18,044 PCR tests were made, the highest number in a day, as part of a strategy to identify contagions in an early stage.
Dr. Duran noted that the most affected provinces are Havana, with 458 cases, and eastern Guantanamo and Santiago de Cuba, with 206 and 125 new patients, respectively.
He added that among the new patients are 120 pregnant women, 83 of whom were contacts of positive cases.
A group of 50 patients are in intensive care units, including 22 critical and 28 in a serious condition, said Dr. Duran, who added that 553 patients were discharged from hospitals, totaling 20,863 patients who recover from the disease since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cuba last March.
