Iran reiterates proposal to guarantee regional security
Tehran, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) Iran reiterated today its proposal that only the countries bordering the Persian Gulf will guarantee regional security without the need for support from others outside the area.
For this reason, Foreign Minister Mohammad Yavad Zarif, recalled an offer by the head of Iranian diplomacy in 1995, Ali Akbar Velayati, to create a system with neighboring Gulf nations and eliminate interference from extra-regional powers.
The Hormuz Peace Initiative that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani proposed at the UN in September 2019, he added, comes from long ago in order to reestablish the empire of peace and security in the area.
What's more, he warned, the Gulf States cannot wait or delegate their security to sponsors of terrorists, as was demonstrated during the presidential term of Donald Trump.
The head of Iranian diplomacy once again extended an invitation to its regional neighbors to join the Hormuz Peace Initiative, in order to resolve between us, he said, conflicts and problems and neutralize Western agents.
Zarif considered the wrong approach of those who think that arming themselves to the teeth will guarantee them security of the West's plans.
