Ruling in favor of euthanasia in Peru will not be rejected
Lima, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) Peru's Ministries of Health and Justice will refrain from approving the ruling to end the suffering caused by an incurable disease, the State Attorney's Office announced.
The attorneys who represent those ministries will not appeal the Ministry of Justice´s ruling in favor of Ana Estrada so that she can be euthanized to die with dignity.
The ruling orders that the Ministries of Justice and Health to respect Ana´s will, so Eduardo Vega and Óscar Ugarte, ministers of Justice and Health, respectively, supported her decision and entrusted this matter to attorneys.
According to the ruling, the Penal Code´s article that sanctions euthanasia to medical personnel assisting Ana Estrada to fulfill her wish should not be applied, as long as it is practiced institutionally and subject to the control of its legality.
In addition, the Ministry of Health ordered to respect Estrada's decision to end her life through euthanasia procedure.
Ana Estrada, 22, has been suffering from polymyositis since she was 12. It is an incurable disease that causes muscle progressive and irreversible degeneration, causing severe pain and forcing her to be laid up in bed for 20 hours a day.
