Over two million Chileans are homeless
Santiago de Chile, Mar 22 (Prensa Latina) More than two million Chileans are homeless, and the country today runs at least 802 Camps, as precarious settlements with no access to basic services are called here.
According to El Siglo weekly, there are 47,000 homes built in areas at risk due to wildfires, landslides, flooding of rivers and other phenomena.
El Siglo pointed out that the dramatic housing deficit in Chile has recently triggered a constant increased occupation of land, either public or private.
This situation hit the headlines in recent weeks after dozens of families who had taken a waste land in the municipality of Renca were evicted by police forces.
According to official data, 27,000 families were homeless in 2011, a figure that in 2019 amounted to 47,000.
