La Paz, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's President Luis Arce will present the campaign to release the anti-Covid-19 vaccine patents to the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, informed the Deputy Ministry of Communication.
Arce will present such plan on April 21st with the proposal that international organizations play their role in a fair distribution of the antidotes.
This initiative was presented on Tuesday by Bolivia's Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta, and it is based on creating awareness for an equitable access to immunizers.
Mayta urged the first world countries that hoard vaccines above their real needs to make an exercise of humanity and get rid of what they have acquired in excess to give it to the people who need it most.
'We believe that vaccine patents should be released, and at this moment in the world there are dozens of pharmaceutical companies that are in a position to manufacture them, but they cannot do so because there is intellectual property,' the FM said.
In order to get out of the pandemic, any public or private pharmaceutical company that can produce the vaccine should do so and governments should overcome the commercial limitations for that to happen, he added.
