British congressmen call for the end of US blockade against Cuba
London, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Dozens of British congressmen have supported a motion urging the UK government to promote cooperation with Cuba and to act upon the end of the US blockade against Cuba.
As reported by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC), the proposal presented on February 25 was already signed by 57 parliamentarians from various parties, including Labor Party, the Scottish National Party, the Green Party, the Welsh Plaid Cymru Party and the Democratic Unionist Party, plus some independents ones.
The text, entitled Early Motion 1550 Cuba and the United States Blockade, also urges British conservative authorities to encourage the President Joe Biden administration to withdraw Cuba from the US list of states sponsor of terrorism and also to normalize bilateral ties with Havana.
This Chamber recognizes that the US blockade has cost billions of dollars for Cuban economy and a shortage of vital resources, and that it has been tightened by the Donald Trump administration's decision to include Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.
It also supports the fact that UK and Cuba work on joint projects on fighting Covid-19, medical research and that the Cuban medical brigades have been allowed to aid British overseas territories.
We hope this cooperation will encourage President Joe Biden to normalize diplomatic relations with Cuba, to withdraw Cuba from the US list as a state sponsor of terrorism and to lift the blockade, said Labor lawmaker Grahame Morris, who introduced the motion.
CSC Director Rob Miller, on the other hand, stated that everyone is watching Biden in his first months as president, and they hope he will take note of coming June´s vote at the UN General Assembly, where the world 'will say NO to the US blockade again.'
