Uruguay goes through worst month in Covid-19 pandemic
Montevideo, May 1 (Prensa Latina) April was the worst month of the Covid-19 pandemic in Uruguay with 1,610 fatalities, as reported today by the National Emergency System that collects daily data on the course of infections.
That figure corresponds to more than half of the 2,616 deaths that have occurred since March 2020 when the first positive cases of people infected by the SARS CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, were detected, which add up to date 198 thousand 428 infected.
With a population of just three and a half million inhabitants, Uruguay was among the countries with the most proportional dissemination of Covid-19 per day, and this day it counted another two thousand 702, out of a stable average of three thousand.
At the end of the fourth month of the year, the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group (GACH) confirmed the failure of the recommended slogan of 'shielding April', which has now been transferred to May, but this time with manifest skepticism, no matter how much the immunization vaccination underway advances. .
The GACH reiterated in a recent report the need for measures to drastically reduce mobility and urged extreme caution with the restart of the face-to-face school year announced by the nation's president, Luis Lacalle Pou, starting next Monday.
Currently there are 27,989 active patients, 548 of them in critical care centers, on which the Society of Intensive Medicine reiterated that the policy of providing more beds is insufficient with the same exhausted qualified human resources.
