Santo Domingo, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) Dominican President Luis Abinader on Friday inaugurated the Girasol Solar Park, largest photovoltaic power plant in the region, with an investment of over 100 million dollars.
Built by Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina), located in San Cristobal province, the plant has 268,200 photovoltaic panels and 28 inverters of 3.8 megawatts each in an area of 220 hectares.
At the ceremony, the head of State emphasized, 'the success of the strong public-private alliance fostered throughout the country finds in EGE Haina one of its clearest expressions in the main mixed capital company, with a model of shared effort and joint investment.'
'Thanks to this park we are considerably increasing the national photovoltaic capacity to 50 percent more,' he added.
Likewise, Abinader pointed out that solar energy has become lately the third most important renewable energy source worldwide, next to hydroelectric and wind energy sources.
'And the Dominican Republic meets all the conditions to host a clean energy production plant of those characteristics,' he said.
Finally, he noted, 'this clean energy generating plant is a clear example of the government's commitment to work for the sustainability and development of our country based on a harmonious relationship with the environment and natural resources.'
