China builds train with speed of 600 kph
Beijing, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) China launched the first of a new generation of maglev (magnetic levitation) trains capable of running at 600 kilometers per hour (roughly 370 mph), that is, the fastest in the world.
A plant in the city of Qingdao assembled the vehicle after several successful tests to review and optimize its technologies, components and operating systems.
CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd designed the train and completed the first single-carriage trials at the Shanghai Tongji University in June 2020.
It then made progress in researching and developing a prototype with five train cars, before starting production at the end of this year.
China's first medium-low speed maglev railway line was put into commercial operation in May 2016 in the central city of Changsha.
Since then, its use has been expanded to other areas of the country and Beijing launched its own at the end of 2017 to cover a 10.2-kilometer route between the districts of Mentougou and Shijingshan, in the west of the city.
