US has reached logical limit with blockade against Cuba
Mexico, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) With the blockade against Cuba, the United States has reached the limit of logic and ethics, because how to justify denying a people oxygen amid a pandemic, Mexican Foreign Secretary Ebrard stated on Wednesday.
In a long interview published in La Jornada newspaper, the foreign secretary said that, for this reason, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador suggested his US counterpart, Joe Biden, to suspend the measures that have prevented Cuba from trading normally with the world for nearly 60 years.
Next step is to see what the United States will respond and, based on that, adjust our course, the official added.
Regarding the Mexican president's questioning of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the need to eliminate it, Ebrard noted that what we have seen in the Covid-19 pandemic is that it (the OAS) has not even made a statement on the situation.
According to its position, we would not even have voted in the United Nations on the resolution of universal access to the vaccine. It is not a technical issue, it is a central political issue. That is why, there are many of us who wonder, what is it for?
I would say that the OAS is morally bankrupt, but also politically. The time has come to consider building something new.
Regarding protests in Cuba, which were oversized by international media, the foreign secretary pointed out that he has seen more serious situations in Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and the weird thing would be they did not occur in Cuba, especially with a more difficult situation.
The logical thing is that there should not be a blockade for Cubans to decide which route they want to take in their system, but the blockade becomes the main obstacle.
Recalling the rapprochement with Cuba promoted by President Barack Obama, Ebrard said that he argued that the United States had been doing the same thing for 50 years unsuccessfully, and it is time to change the formula.
