Uruguayan doctor notes worse Covid-19 situation

Montevideo, Mar 30 (Prensa Latina) Medical Union President Gustavo Grecco said on Tuesday that the Covid-19 situation in Uruguay is worse than officially shown because 'we report some 2,300 cases a day'.

Grecco contradicted the average figure of 1,500 he attributed to some failures in the data reports recognized by the National Emergency System, frequently corrects its reports.

On Tuesday, Uruguay reported 1,450 new Covid-19 cases, plus 728 reported by the laboratories out of date, totaling 2,178 contagions in a day and a total of 19,246 active patients.

At the same time, the Society of Critical Care Medicine verified that 306 patients are in intensive care units, representing 39 percent.

The union leader pointed to an exponential increase in contagions and an alarming number of patients at home and in emergency rooms.
