Israel prohibits release of Palestinian prisoners

Ramallah, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The occupation authorities in the West Bank prohibited the release of Palestinians from East Jerusalem imprisoned in Israel, an official source denounced here on Thursday.

Israeli soldiers broke into Ghazi Kanaan’s house in Ras el Amoud district on Wednesday and threatened to arrest him just 24 hours after he had served 11 years in prison for opposing Tel Aviv’s military occupation, WAFA news agency reported.

In another incident, Israeli soldiers surrounded the neighborhood and broke into the home of another Palestinian activist, whom the source refrains from revealing, earlier this week, and his family and friends welcomed him home after being imprisoned for 20 years.

Palestinian National Authority (PNA) spokesmen’s denunciation comes after the release here of a State Department report in Washington, in which the US government classifies Gaza, the West Bank and the Syrian Golan Heights as areas under military occupation.

This concept is a 180-degree shift of the current US administration headed by President Joseph Biden compared to the stance of his predecessor, former Republican President Donald Trump.

An extreme champion of Israeli, Trump went so far as to propose a so-called ‘deal of the century,’ rejected outright by the PNA, which considered it contrary to its goal of establishing its own state with its capital in eastern Jerusalem, where the Al Aqsa mosque, one of the three holy sites of Islam, is located.
