France is asked to freeze Lebanese officials´ assets

Beirut, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) A hundred civil society figures in Lebanon asked French President Emmanuel Macron to freeze assets of alleged culprits of the worst crisis in the Arab country in decades, the Naharnet website reported today.

In an open letter published by Le Monde journal, signatories believe it is possible that a radical measure against corrupt people could put the nation back on track.

In such a way they coincide with analysts who consider the pressure on the ruling political elite as the best and effective lever for changes in the Lebanese national scenario.

Macron must freeze assets of dubious origin in the hands of Lebanese political leaders, says the document sent by one hundred Lebanese citizens.

A political-economic mafia is responsible for misery, hunger and insecurity in Lebanon.

That endemic large-scale corruption enriched politicians who ruthlessly emptied the treasury and embezzled aid sent after the civil war.
