Brigade returns to Cuba after fighting against Covid-19 in Mexico

Havana, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) A group of 94 healthcare professionals from the Henry Reeve international Medical Contingent returned to Cuba on Friday, after contributing to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico.

Through a video message, Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel welcomed the fourth returning medical brigade ‘after having successfully completed their mission’ in that country, he said.

The head of State referred to the demanding conditions in which the sector’s personnel worked, and mentioned the acknowledgements from authorities, the Ministry of Health, the National Defense and the Government of Mexico City.

According to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), the original brigade was made up of 500 professionals, who left for that country on December 14, 2020; today 192 collaborators remain there.

The collaborators attended 1,695 patients suspected or Covid-19 cases, of which 1,424 were admitted to the hospital and there were 1,139 recoveries.

They also carried out 198,546 nursing procedures, in addition to 35,16 training and evaluation actions on biosecurity measures, MINSAP referred.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Rolando Sotolongo, a specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine, noted that those three and a half months of work were a different experience, due to the high rates of contagion and mortality caused by Covid-19.
