Spanish newspaper accused of criminalizing world solidarity with Cuba

Madrid, Apr 15 (Latin Press) Some 70 Cuba friendship associations and Cubans living abroad accused the Spanish newspaper ABC of criminalizing the actions of their emigration and the solidarity movement in favor of the Caribbean island.

The groups issued a statement demanding that the aforementioned right-wing newspaper rectify its recent articles, in which it tries to implicate solidarity and emigres’ organizations in an alleged infiltration of the ‘Basque and Catalonian independence movements.’

The signatories of the statement expressed their resounding rejection of ABC’s misinformation and lies with the goal of intentionally diverting attention from Cuba’s reality with false accusations about the country’s foreign politics and the world’s solidarity with the island.

The statement contrasted these false complaints with the silence kept by the mainstream media about the Cuban medical brigades, which have been collaborating in numerous countries for more than a year in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, or the silence of the press in relation to the damaging effects that the economic blockade imposed by the United States causes on Cuba, or the development of five vaccine candidates against Covid-19, a great achievement by Cuban scientists.

‘In the current context of media manipulation through fake news, we must denounce this false accusation against Cuba as something as serious as interference in the internal affairs of other countries,’ the signatories of the manifesto expressed.

‘The defense of the peoples’ political sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of the countries has been, is and will be one of the main flags of both (Cuba) and its emigration, as well as the international solidarity movements,’ they underlined.
