Russia arrests two alleged Belarus coup plotters

Moscow, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Russia´s main security agency announced that it has arrested two Belarusians who it said were preparing a plot to overthrow Belarus´ government and kill President Alexander Lukashenko.

One of the men arrested, Alexandr Feduta, was Lukashenko´s spokesman whe he was first elected in 1994, but later joined the opposition. The other, lawyer Yuras Zyankovich, has dual Belarusian-US citizenship.

The statement said that ‘both planned to conduct a military coup in Belarus following the script of the so-called color revolutions and involving Ukrainian and local nationalists.’
