Journalists, radio stations and news agencies highlighted here his decision of ending his mandate as head of the PCC, of not accepting proposals to hold senior positions in this organization and remaining a common member of the party.

‘The Army General said that he was pleased to hand the country’s leadership over to a group of leaders trained by and committed to the Revolution,’ according to a press release by the Azerbaijani Report news agency.

For its part, Poligon website, also from this country, shared an excerpt of Raul Castro’s central report to the Congress, in which he says nothing is forcing him to resign and that he trusts new generations.

‘But I strongly believe in the force and value of setting an example and that my fellow countrymen and women will understand, and no one should doubt that as long as I live I will be ready, with a foot on the stirrup, to defend the homeland, the Revolution and Socialism, several Azerbaijani media outlets reported.

The sessions of the 8th PCC Congress started in Cuba on April 16 and ended on Monday with the election of President Miguel Diaz-Canel as first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The new Central Committee, the Political Buro and the Secretariat of this party were also announced.

In his central report, Raul Castro claimed that Diaz-Canel is not the result of improvisation, but of a well thought-out selection of a young talented revolutionary who can be promoted to higher positions.
