CARICOM calls for US aid to access Covid-19 vaccines

Georgetown, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) urged the United States on Wednesday to help Caribbean nations to have access to Covid-19 vaccine doses.

The body indicated that it is ‘an imperative for the region to emerge from the economic devastation caused by the pandemic,’ according to an official statement issued after a round table held between CARICOM´s Foreign Ministers with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The statement -published on CARICOM´S official website, pointed out that the meeting dealt thoroughly with present coronavirus-caused health crisis and its economic and health aftermaths.

During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize Eamon Courtenay and the CARICOM Secretary-General Irving LaRocque laid stress on the need to access concessional financing for vulnerability-based development.

Blinken, on the other hand, expressed the US willingness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with CARICOM country members.
