Experts warn of growing addictive behaviors in Cuba

Havana, May 3 (Prensa Latina) Evidence in Cuba's community context shows that during 2021 of the Covid-19 pandemic, addictive behaviors have grown in the country, experts warn on Monday.

In an information released by the Ministry of Public Health on Monday, it is referred that in stressful situations, some people tend to take refuge in drug abuse and other addictive practices.

Fear, anxiety, panic and insecurity have been frequent emotions at this stage, explains Doctor of Science Justo Reinaldo Fabelo Roche, head of the Addictions Research Department of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana.

The specialist also highlights the constant worry about the real possibility of getting sick and infecting both family members and friends, which can also generate manifestations of melancholy and depression.

‘In times of pandemic fatigue, the lack of emotional control can be a determining factor for this type of behavior,’ he pointed out.

Studies reveal that the most traditionally used drugs in Cuba are tobacco and alcohol.
