Lebanese government sources stated that at the order of President Michel Aoun, Lebanon’s mission will abandon the talks if to continue them, it must give in its request to extend an offshore area in dispute with the Tel Aviv regime.
We will only accept international law, Aoun said, to guarantee the talks dedicated to finding a just and equitable solution.
Desrocher demanded commitment to the Lebanese delegation to its initial claim of 860 square kilometers that Beirut expanded to 1,430 square kilometers and Tel Aviv rejected.
Lebanon and Israel began indirect talks in October 2020 to resolve the dispute that delays exploration of hydrocarbons in an area estimated to be rich in oil and natural gas.
