The priority of the negotiating team is to guarantee the defense of the nation, said Aragchi, who leads the Iranian mission in the talks dedicated to saving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or nuclear deal.

‘The interests of the Iranian people come first,’ he said.

The talks between Iran and the JCPOA signatories, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China plus Germany, began on April 6.

The United States withdrew from the deal and restored sanctions removed by the pact. Tehran adopted corrective measures that stipulate the right as part of article 36 of the JCPOA.

Previously, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei pointed out that Iran will only stop observing that section, after the removal of these sanctions has been lifted and verified.
