On Twitter, the FM pointed out that ‘the unity and articulation of the peoples must be a pillar both in the streets and ballot boxes as well as in digital networks.’

‘Through the control of hegemonic media and new technologies, there is an attempt to dominate Our Americas and weaken progressive and leftist figures,’ he tweeted.

Cuba has repeatedly denounced the role of the mainstream media in manipulating information and creating fake news to discredit progressive processes in the region.

Recently, President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced that this behavior allows powerful groups – mainly from highly developed countries – to transform ideas, tastes, emotions and ideological currents into universal patterns.

‘Through the dissemination of lying matrices, manipulations and infamies of all kinds, they contribute to promote political instability in an attempt to overthrow governments, where the will of a free and independent nation has not been broken,’ he said during the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The president further alleged that no people is safe from lies and slander in the era of ‘post-truth.’
