Dujarric added that Guterres remains seriously concerned about the conflict escalation, both in the Gaza Strip and in East Jerusalem.

The spokesperson reiterated that Israeli security forces must exercise utmost restraint and calibrate their use of force.

Guterres is deeply saddened to learn of increased number of victims, including children, due to Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, and also the Israeli deaths, he said.

According to diplomatic sources, members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) were negotiating to publish a press statement on current situation in Palestine, but unfortunately the statement has not yet been approved by US representation.
