Malago won 55 of the 69 votes cast by the participants at the CONI National Council, who met in the city of Milan, and beat former president of the Cycling Federation, Renato Di Rocco, and the two-time Olympic champion in that sport, Antonella Bellutti.

When responding to the trust placed in him for a third consecutive term, the 61-year-old sports leader said that he will spare no effort in fulfilling his duties to ‘continue to honor a world that I feel is mine and for which I have made a commitment which I have proven I respect.’
