Russia denounces Israel’s attack on media headquarters in Gaza

Moscow, May 17 (Prensa Latina) The official spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, made statements to the press in which he denounced Israel's attack on the headquarters of international media organizations in the Gaza Strip.

‘We are extremely concerned about those attacks, especially taking into account that the offices of the world’s leading media organizations are in that building,’ the official said.

The Israeli military justified the attack by claiming that the building, which housed the offices of the US Associated Press and the Al Jazeera TV network, was used by the Palestinian movement Hamas with military goals.

Regarding the recent escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Peskov said that Russia is alarmed by the rise in the number of human lives, Sputnik news agency reported.

The official stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not establish any contact with the representatives of the parties in conflict, but they can be organized as part of dialogue and as a member of the Middle East Quartet.

A meeting of the group, made up of the United Nations, the European Union, the Russian Federation and the United States, was convened in recent days by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Peskov warned that an uncontrolled escalation and lengthening of the conflict is a danger to many countries in the region, which have ‘quite difficult’ relations.
