Montevideo continues program of solidary literature

Montevideo, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) The Mayor's office of Montevideo is continuing the solidary literature program it launched accompanying the National Book Day and afterwards the World Environment Day.

The government of the capitals called on the citizenship on May 26th to donate disused books, that are in a good state or were enjoyed by their owners, for which they placed collection spots and the communal square.

As per the official site of the office of the Frente Amplio, the goal of this activity is to put those resources at the disposal of the community and contribute to their renewed value.

All the books collected up to this point were sent to a disinfection site for their distribution to itinerant libraries providing community aid for the reinforcement of access to culture goods by the more vulnerable sectors of the population.

The Minister of the Culture Department, Maria Ines Obaldia, informed that nearly 20,000 people received the benefit of a book in loans, which are ‘always returned, some take longer because they need more time, and it is good to know they are taking a productive and creative time.’

In her words, the literature reached 80 vulnerable communities through this project, owing to the distribution of some 3,800 books of various authors and genres.
