Beijing, (Prensa Latina) China on Tuesday expressed its firm condemnation of any US attempt to boycott the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and also the persistence by this and other countries to politicize sports.

The Foreign Ministry deplored that Washington insists on using this topic to accuse China of alleged genocide of Xinjiang (northwest) ethnic groups, with a high presence of Muslims.

It warned that sports politicization violates the Olympic Charter and damages the interests of athletes from all countries.

It emphasized that the United States must stop lying and focus on the problems that are overwhelming its population such as white supremacy, racism and discrimination against groups such as Afro- and Asian descendants.

Thus, the Foreign Ministry responded to a statement by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on consultations with allies to coordinate a boycott to this global event.

For the past few months, several powers and human rights groups have promoted that idea, alleging supposed abuse in the autonomous Uighur region.

This topic has kept China’s relation with Western nations under tension and has led to the mutual imposition of sanctions and even commercial problems.
