Cuba launches call for 13th International Convention on Environment

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) Promoting cooperation, exchanging of experiences and sustainable practices is the goal of the 13th International Convention on Environment and Development, scheduled for July 5 to 9, experts announced on Tuesday in Havana.

Dr. Maritza Garcia Garcia, president of the Environment Agency and of the event’s organizing committee with the slogan ‘Science and Conscience for Environmental Sustainability,’ stated in a press briefing that up to date there are 1,079 scientific papers to be presented, 274 of them by foreign speakers.

Garcia Garcia explained that this edition is going to be arranged in several congresses: 13th on Environmental Education for Sustainable Development; 12th on Protected Areas; 10th on Environmental Management; 8th on Ecosystems and Biodiversity Management; 7th on Climate Change and 5th on Environmental Policy, Justice and Law.

For the first time, the Congress on Geospatial Sciences, Space Weather and Disaster Risk will take place with 127 presentations on the use of tools and methodologies for space weather, as well as proposals for studies, natural and engineering solutions and local implementation of outcomes.

The expert pointed out previous conventions achieved a participation of over 10,400 people, approximately 50 percent of them from over 60 countries from the five continents.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the event to be virtually arranged in eight different venues, she confirmed the presentation of keynote lectures and high-level scientific papers from all provinces of the country.
